Prophetic Visions
2019 - Large Chamber Ensemble
Prophetic Visions tells the story of an apocalyptic revelation. After a brief introduction, an alto flute solo introduces the prophecy, warning the world of the what's to come. The message is initially ignored. However, the unease slowly begins to grow until war horns sound. The music paints a chaotic and destructive vision as the prophecy is fulfilled. The end of the piece is the smoldering wreckage, with the lone flute lamenting the sins of the people.
Prophetic Visions was written as an entry into a call for scores competition from the Durward Ensemble. On April 1, 2019 it was announced that the piece was selected for performance. The premiered was on May 9, 2019 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
